The Institute for Military History and 20th Century Studies is dedicated to the historical study of public policies concerning national security, international affairs and government institutions. The institute was established in October 2001 and is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, primarily through the department of history.

A major objective of the institute is to foster scholarly and educational alliances between Kansas State University, the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kan., and the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth.

The institute also regularly sponsors lectures and conferences, publishes the results of those meetings, funds travel for research and scholarship, helps coordinate the K-State-Command and General Staff College joint doctorate program in history and helps fund graduate students.
