What's Happening in HR

Human Capital Services

As we continue to advance our vision and goals for K-State 2025, strategic and transformative leadership is necessary. Effective July 1, 2014, the Office of Human Capital Services consolidated and integrated the human resource functions and services offered in the Office of Academic Personnel, Office of Institutional Equity and Division of Human Resources. The elevated level of service that results will take the development of our faculty and staff — K-State's greatest resource — to new heights.

Medicare Confusion Eliminated

Human Capital Services will offer Medicare Basics (pdf) for the K-State community.

Medicare can be very confusing.  Supplemental plans to Medicare can be even more confusing.  Would you like some answers to the confusion?  If you are 55 or older and thinking of retirement in a couple of years, or if you are assisting parents looking forward to retirement, this is a session for you.  Please join us for an unbiased informational Medicare Basics session presented by Jennifer Wilson, Riley County Extension Agent and SHICK partner.  Jennifer will help make sense of the alphabet soup called Medicare.  She'll present clear and precise information on what you need to think about as retirement becomes a reality rather than just a dream.  Jennifer has been providing this session for several years for our K-State employees.

Sessions are:

  • April 20, 2015 3p-5p, 103 Edwards Hall
  • April 23, 2015 6p-8p, Alumni Center Banquet Room B and C

To register: Go to HRIS Employee Self Service->Learning and Development->KSU Training Enrollment, Click on Medicare Basics (WTD137) and select which session you would like to attend.

Guests of employees are welcome, but need to be added separately via email to

Rediscover Your Total Rewards

HCS is launching a compensation initiative to review our rewards systems which will begin with developing job descriptions for all employees within USS, Unclassified and Non-tenured faculty staff.  Please read more about this initiative in the April 9 K-State Today.

Please note, reclassification of existing jobs will be suspended as of May 1, 2015.  Because every position will be reviewed and analyzed during our compensation initiative, this suspension will allow HCS staff to focus on the project to ensure its success.

Duplicate W-2s

Duplicate W-2s for 2014 will be available starting Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Employees wishing to obtain immediate access to W-2 information, rather than requesting and waiting for a duplicate W-2 in the mail, may consent and receive their W-2 information electronically via the State of Kansas Employee Self Service (see article below about Electronic W-2s). Employees wishing to receive a printed duplicate W-2 need to contact Human Capital Services at 785-532-6277. Please note - Employees who retired or terminated from State service have access to consent to view/print W-2's or to request duplicate paper W-2's for 18 months after their date of separation.

Electronic W-2s Now Available

W-2s for 2014 are now available through State of Kansas Employee Self Service. If you did not consent to receive your W-2 electronically, printed W-2s, will be mailed in late January, 2015.

See the Frequently Asked Questions (pdf) for more information. If you have any questions, please contact your department HR liaison.
