Letter to Parents and Family
Dear K-State parent and family members,
Our focus on student success has led us to implement a comprehensive prevention program to help our students make the safest, healthiest decisions possible.
One way we do that is through AlcoholEdu for College®, a two hour, web-based alcohol education and prevention program used at more than 500 colleges and universities throughout the country. The program uses the latest prevention techniques and science-based research to educate students about the impact of alcohol on the mind and body. Whether or not your student drinks alcohol, AlcoholEdu will empower your student to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and help him or her better cope with the drinking behavior of peers.
All newly enrolled, degree-seeking students on the Manhattan and Salina campuses, under the age of 22 will be required to complete the AlcoholEdu program and pass its exam. We will communicate directly with your student regarding the information and instructions necessary to complete the program.
While we are committed to making a difference with our students, we also understand that parents and guardians are the first line of defense against alcohol misuse and abuse. We believe K-State, our parents and family members are in a partnership to promote student success. That’s why we are making the AlcoholEdu for Parents program available at no cost to parents and family members to review and to help open a dialogue about alcohol with your student. If you choose to review the program, see instructions below. If you have taken AlcoholEdu for High School, we still encourage you to participate in this AlcoholEdu for Parents program, as it does address college level student experiences.
We are confident that AlcoholEdu for College will help support your student’s success at K-State and in the future. If you have any questions about K-State’s alcohol and drug abuse programs and services, please feel free to contact Chaz Mailey, director of Alcohol and Other Drug Education Service at (785) 532-6927.
With best regards,
Pat Bosco, PhD
