K-State First seeks nominations for its First-Year Advocate awards

Submitted by Brent Weaver

K-State First seeks nominations for its First-Year Advocate awards: one for a current faculty or staff member at K-State, the other for a current student. Nominations are due by 8 a.m. on Feb. 5, 2024.

Through this award, K-State First hopes to identify some of the unsung heroes of campus who go above and beyond to support first-year students.

As you create your nomination, consider the following.

How does your nominee:

  • Engage with first-year students?
  • Help students succeed academically?
  • Build community?
  • Show they value equity and inclusion?
  • Empower their students?
  • Help their students find purpose and achieve their goals?

Please use this nomination survey to submit your nomination. Successful nominations will demonstrate how the nominee meets many, if not all, of the above criteria. Nominations may be submitted in a variety of formats. For example, nomination materials could be an essay of 500-600 words, a video with specific testimonials, or a PowerPoint presentation with images and quotes related to the nominee's impact.

Previous First-Year Advocate award winners are not eligible to win. Previous winners include Susan Rensing, faculty/staff; Nikela Reed, student; Eve McCulloch, faculty/staff; Trenton Schneider, student; Jessica Henault, faculty/staff; Julia Gross, student; Tamara Bauer, faculty/staff; Haley Weinberg, student; Don Saucier, faculty/staff; Bailey Porter, student; Mike Finnegan, faculty/staff; and Krista Everhart, student.
