Phillips 66 Business Ethics Case Competition awards $10,150 to K-State students

Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023

MANHATTAN — The Kansas State University College of Business Administration recently awarded $10,150 in scholarship money to 23 students who competed in the 2023 Phillips 66 Business Ethics Case Competition.

The competition was organized by the college's Business Ethics Initiative and sponsored by Phillips 66.

Students were challenged to examine a real-world ethical dilemma and were responsible for analyzing the situation, applying appropriate ethical and strategic management principles, and developing a viable set of practical recommendations. After faculty members in the management department evaluated the initial written analyses, four teams were selected to compete in the final round, where they presented their analyses and recommendations to a panel of judges.

"This competition provides a great opportunity for our students to improve their analytical skills while examining the overlap between strategic and ethical issues," said Bill Turnley, Sam and Karen Forrer chair of business ethics and head of the management department. "The presentations did a nice job of balancing these two concerns. We very much appreciate the support from Phillips 66 that makes this competition possible."
