Graduate School offers Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Grant for 10th year

Submitted by Michael Sellman

The Graduate School is accepting applications for the Small Grant Program to support research expenses for master's and doctoral students in arts, humanities and social sciences disciplines. This is the 10th year the Graduate School is offering this funding opportunity.

Grants are up to $1,000 and will help support direct research costs, such as travel to an archive, data collection, or exhibition and performance expenses for graduate students conducting original research in eligible fields of study.

The Graduate School developed this program to reduce the financial burden for graduate students and to support their research goals in disciplines that may have limited research funding opportunities.

Previous grant recipients have used their funds to conduct research on topics such as the influence of light on people's perception of safety using virtual reality technology, radio and misconceptions in American-East Asian relations during the Cold War era, media trust, news exposure, trust in government within a government-controlled system, and the influence of environmental attributes on indicators of well-being.

Applicants must be enrolled in a K-State doctoral or master's program in an eligible arts, humanities and social sciences discipline. Students who previously received a Small Research Grant are not eligible for funding a second time.

A list of eligible programs and application instructions can be found on the Small Grant Program website.

The priority application deadline is Oct. 1. Reviews will begin on Oct. 2. Applications will continue to be accepted until funds are exhausted. Applicants who meet the priority application deadline will be notified of funding decisions by Oct. 20.

Questions about the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Grant may be directed to Megan Miller, assistant director of graduate student success, at mmmiller@k-state.edu
