Student playwrights and performers present new works

Student playwrights and performers will present "Writes of Spring" at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in the Purple Masque Theatre.

The performance of 10-minute plays celebrates the new works of the K-State Playwriting course taught by theatre director David Mackay. It features directors and actors from the Practice in Directing and Acting course with Jerry Jay Cranford, and Joelle Arp-Dunham is directing with students working in her Intimacy and Consent and Intermediate Acting courses.

Featuring a diverse range of genres, from comedy to drama and everything in between, these play readings are sure to entertain and captivate audiences of all ages. The festival showcases the talents of K-State's up-and-coming playwrights, directors and actors as they bring their unique perspectives and voices to the stage.

The following plays will be performed: 

  • "Clean" by Emmett Spaw. Director: Katie Flynn. Reader: Drew Scrivner. Cast: Mica Traore as Mark and Jackson Berland as Teddy.
  • "Goodbye, Sister" by Rita Claire Turner. Director: Katie Flynn. Reader: McKenna Moten. Cast: Ingrid Patterson as Anya, Lindsey Edwards as Clara, Sarah Slightom as Mom, Drew Scrivner as Dad and Mica Traore as Esme. 
  • "Tammy and Tanya" by Sarah Slightom. Director: McKenna Moten. Reader: Katie Flynn. Cast: Lindsey Edwards as Tammy, Ingrid Patterson as Tanya, Michael Pierce as Carter and Drew Scrivner as Announcer. 
  • "A Bottle" by Belaye Turner. Director: McKenna Moten. Reader: Katie Flynn. Cast: Jackson Berland as Father and Lindsey Edwards as Daughter. 
  • "Truth or Dare" by J Garrison. Director: Joelle Arp-Dunham. Reader: Matthew Rodgers. Cast: Ingrid Patterson as Robin, Mica Traore as James and Eric Yu as Jonah.
