Patrick Winter appointed interim executive director for recruitment and admissions

Submitted by Office of the Provost

Patrick Winter has been appointed as the interim executive director for recruitment and admissions and will begin his duties on Oct. 24. As announced on Sept. 30 in K-State Today, the temporary interim executive director will provide critical operational management for the Office of Recruitment and Admissions while the national search for a permanent executive director is conducted over the next several months.

As interim executive director, Winter will be responsible for leading undergraduate recruitment efforts, including external recruitment, on-campus visitation, admissions evaluation, orientation and enrollment programs, competitive scholarship awarding and the implementation of our undergraduate Slate database.

"I am thrilled to welcome Patrick to the K-State community," said Karen Goos, vice provost for enrollment management. "His expertise in the areas of admissions, recruitment, and marketing and communications presents a unique skill set that will help us keep moving forward during this time of transition."

Winter brings with him more than 27 years of experience in admissions and enrollment management at top 20 public research and land-grant institutions, including the University of Nebraska, the University of Georgia and Arizona State University. Most recently, he served as the associate vice chancellor of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. In this role, he provided leadership and strategic direction for admissions, scholarships, financial aid, registrar, one-stop, new student enrollment and analytics and reporting.

Before his stint at UNL, he had 14 years of progressive admissions experience at the University of Georgia with a culminating role of associate vice president for admissions and enrollment management. During his tenure at Georgia, he oversaw a 90% increase in inquiries and a 41% increase in first-year applications, implemented Slate CRM, and facilitated relationships with on-campus constituencies to sustain collaboration between admissions and departments including financial aid, athletics, institutional diversity, development, alumni association, government relations and all academic units.

Winter earned his Bachelor of Science in political science from Auburn University and his Master of Education in higher and postsecondary education from Arizona State University.
