Student Senate weekly update

Submitted by Blake Phillips

Good morning, Wildcats!

Student Senate met on Thursday, Oct. 21. At the meeting, several pieces of legislation were voted upon and introduced to the body.

Student Senate voted on legislation that struck the requirement for all elections violations to have a hearing held by the Elections Committee. Under this new system, a hearing will be held if the violation is substantial enough to justify one. Student Senate also voted to officially change the name of the Privilege Fee Committee to the Student Services Fee Committee, in accordance with the renaming of the Campus Privilege Fee this summer.

Student Senate also voted to approve allocations to the Sexuality and Gender Alliance, a decrease to the Student Design Services Student Services Fee allocation, and a resolution calling upon the university to take action on sexual violence at K-State. The resolution outlines a large list of action items that SGA would like to see from the university. If you are interested in learning more about any of these pieces of legislation, please contact Speaker of the Student Senate Blake Phillips at bphillips@k-state.edu

Student Senate introduced an on-campus funding allocation to the Asian American Student Union, a travel allocation to the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and a letter welcoming refugees from Afghanistan to the Manhattan community.

Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union. All are welcome to attend in person or can watch live on YouTube at the K-State SGA YouTube channel.
