Student Senate Weekly Update

Submitted by Blake Phillips

Hello Wildcats!

Starting this week, the K-State Today Student Edition will include a weekly update from Student Senate. As student leaders, it is important that we communicate the work that is done on behalf of students to those who elected us.

April 8 marked the beginning of the 2021-2022 term for Student Senate. At the meeting, the newly elected student body president, student body vice president and student senators were sworn into their roles for the upcoming year. View the results from the 2021-2022 SGA election.

Student Senate also considered and passed two commendations and approved a position appointment Thursday. Commendations included a commendation to the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative and KSU Foundation Regarding All In for K-State 2021, and a commendation to USC for Eliminating KU from the NCAA Tournament. Student Senate voted to confirm Maggie Billman as chief of staff for the coming term. The chief of staff's primary responsibility is to oversee the student body president's cabinet. If you are interested in applying to serve on cabinet this year, please contact Billman at maggiekay@k-state.edu

Finally, Student Senate held an election for speaker of the Student Senate. Student Senate voted for Blake Phillips to be the next speaker. The primary role of the speaker is to oversee the legislative branch of Student Governing Association, which includes Student Senate, committee chairs and other positions. Blake can be contacted at bphillips@k-state.edu

Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15. If you are interested in attending Student Senate, please contact Blake Phillips.
