Teaching and Learning Center presents professional development event today

Submitted by Teaching and Learning Center

Colby Moorberg, assistant professor of agronomy, will present "Course Readings and Information Source Credibility: Increasing Student Familiarity With University Extension and Government Publications" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, via Zoom.

Students often turn to online sources for information, but not all information sources are credible. Moorberg is leading an ongoing study in cooperation with instructors at six different institutions who have adopted the open textbook, "Soil and Water Conservation: An Annotated Bibliography" as the required textbook for their course. They hypothesize that by regular exposure of students to extension and government publications through this open annotated bibliography, the students will increase perceived credibility and use of these types of information sources.

Moorberg will present strategies he has adopted to increase student familiarity, use and engagement with these types of information sources. There will also be an open discussion of related strategies used by others who teach at K-State.
