Continuation of K-State Libraries' services for instructors

Submitted by Cailin Riley

During the suspension of in-person classes, K-State Libraries will continue to provide services and resources to faculty members and students.

While all Libraries locations will be closed to the public, several resources are available online for research materials and can be accessed remotely. Some resources will require users to log in with their K-State eID and passwords.

Interlibrary Loan will continue to process requests for articles and book chapters for electronic delivery; however, some requests may be delayed if the libraries that hold those items are closed. Requests for physical materials will not be processed.

During this time, we feel it is important that instructors encourage their students to reach out to the Libraries for research help; our Ask A Librarian service is available including our chat service for remote users. Additionally, students may not know about our research guides, which provide helpful information for research in their subject area.

In addition, instructors are encouraged to take advantage of the Library Resources tab already present in their Canvas course. It displays general library information at all times or can be linked to specific subject or course data to better serve their needs.

Librarians are able to help instructors with Canvas, build online research guides for their classes and work with them on creating research assignments. Instructors can find the librarian for their department on the Libraries' website.

K-State is offering virtual training sessions via Zoom to assist instructors with transitioning to remote teaching. A session using library resources for remote teaching and learning will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and 9 a.m. Friday, March 20. You can find a full list of the sessions and how to access them online.

Information will be added to the Libraries' continuation of services webpage as it becomes available. Instructors should check this page frequently for updates.
