Maitreya Dunham featured in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Seminar

Maitreya Dunham, professor of genome sciences at the University of Washington, is the featured speaker for Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Seminar on Wednesday, Dec. 11. She will present "High throughput human genetics in yeast" at 4 p.m. in 120 Ackert Hall.
Presentation: With the advent of fast and cheap genome sequencing, functional analysis is now a bottleneck for understanding human genetics and implementing personalized medicine. We are leveraging the awesome power of yeast genetics to create high throughput methods for testing the function of hundreds or thousands of human genetic variants simultaneously. Dunham will discuss two such assays they've developed, one for activity of cytochrome P450s, which are important for drug metabolism, and a second for mutation rate, which is important for cancer risk.
