2019 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers awardee to speak at Division of Biology Seminar

Submitted by Division of Biology

Subbian Satheshkumar Panayampalli, team leader of immunodiagnostics and proteomics, Poxvirus and Rabies Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will deliver a seminar, "High Throughput Genetic Screen To Identify Host Factors And Anti-Viral Targets Against Orthopoxviruses" at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in 221 Ackert Hall.

Panayampalli is a 2019 recipient of the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. He obtained a doctorate in biochemistry for his work on "Mechanism of polyprotein processing and capsid assembly in Sesbania mosaic virus" from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He joined a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Viral Diseases NIH to work with poxviruses. In 2013, he moved to CDC Poxvirus and Rabies Branch and currently leads the Immunodiagnostics and Proteomics Team. The focus of his work involves diagnostic and applied research against pox and rabies viruses to improve detection, identification of host factors and anti-virals, and determine the role of protein post- or co-translational modifications required for viral replication and pathogenesis.

Anyone interested in meeting with Panayampalli during his visit may contact Zhilong Yang at zyang@k-state.edu.
