Fulbright scholar David Ireland to present 'Designing for Sustainable Change' Nov. 2
David Ireland, Fulbright scholar at Stanford University and chief innovation officer for ThinkPlace Consultancy in Canberra, Australia, will present "Designing for Sustainable Change" from 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in 137 Waters Hall.
The Feed the Future Sustainable Intensification Innovation Lab, or SIIL, at K-State will host Ireland during his Oz to Oz visit Oct. 31 to Nov. 3.
Ireland is an innovation expert who completed his doctorate at the University of Queensland Business School and is continuing his research at Stanford University after winning a Fulbright Scholarship. Ireland is using this opportunity to address some of the world’s biggest challenges — how to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. He is looking at ways to help people and organizations meet the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals, and at the same time build new links between Stanford University, University of Queensland and Kansas State University.
Ireland's key areas of interest include designing for sustainable change, particularly in complex systems. His presentation will focus on the intricate web of human behaviors, mixed together with changing technology, environmental and economic landscapes. Ireland will share his thoughts and insights on how to navigate through the complexity and build sustainable value for clients, stakeholders and individuals.
Ireland works to empower people and organizations to deliver profound and positive impact, employing his 20 years of experience in innovation policy, strategy and design thinking. His focus is on helping people and organizations turn values-driven ideas into reality using his background working across business, academia and public policy, which allows him to be effective in multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary contexts. Ireland has co-founded and invested in several technology businesses in fields including digital, finance, oil and gas and aquaculture.
