Lea DeLaria from 'Orange is the New Black' to share her life story, comedy

Submitted by Hannah Ens

Lea DeLaria, best known for portraying Carrie, or "Big Boo," Black on "Orange is the New Black," will share her life story and stand-up comedy at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the K-State Student Union courtyard. A Q&A and brief meet-and-greet opportunity will follow the event. Photos and videos are not allowed during the presentation, but photos are allowed during the meet-and-greet.

DeLaria was the first openly gay comic to perform on American television, a distinction that has led to countless roles. As an award-winning actress, she has starred in television, film, musicals and plays both on and off-Broadway. She also is an accomplished jazz musician with six critically-acclaimed records and has sung in major concert halls around the world. Her most recent album, "House of David: delaria + bowie = jazz," was released in the summer of 2015 to critical acclaim. Her book, "Lea's Book of Rules for the World," combines straight-talking wisdom with her signature humor.
