Yellow fever vaccine temporarily unavailable at Lafene

Submitted by Julie Gibbs

Lafene Health Center is temporarily unable to provide K-Staters with the yellow fever vaccine. Any student, faculty or staff traveling to areas where the yellow fever vaccine is required or recommended will need to visit Passport Health, 8249 W. 95th St., Suite 105, in Overland Park, the closest certified provider with the vaccine at this time, to get the vaccine.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the yellow fever vaccine, YF-VAX, is unavailable until the manufacturer, Sanofi Pasteur, moves to a new production facility, which is not expected to have product availability till the end of 2018. Another vaccine provider, Stamarli in France, is able to provide limited vaccines at various locations across the U.S. Passport Health is one of those locations.

Any traveler required to provide certification for yellow fever vaccination must make an appointment by phone at 877-358-8648 or online with Passport Health to schedule the vaccination. Passport Health advises that appointments fill up quickly and to expect a wait time of 10-14 days. It also confirmed it is unable to sell or send the vaccine to any other entities.

Lafene health professionals provide travel consults for all K-State students, faculty, and staff traveling beyond the borders of the United States. As part of that consultation, expert travel professionals at Lafene have completed an individual review of vaccination requirements for the region being visited and have previously had all required or recommended vaccines available. Lafene Health Center remains committed to providing exceptional travel consults and wants to inform travelers of this specific restriction. If you have questions, please contact Lafene at 785-532-6544 and talk to the travel clinic nurse.
