Access to Capital for Small Businesses Workshop open to public

Submitted by Brent Fritzemeier

The Kansas State University College of Business will host an Access to Capital for Small Businesses Workshop from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in 1092 Business Building.

Access to Capital for Small Businesses is a half-day educational and networking event for small business owners, want-to-be small business owners, business students, business consultants, financial planners, bankers, and anyone involved in helping small businesses apply for loans, find grants, or bring in investors.

"It could be someone who's in business already and wants to understand how they can work with borrowing money, or managing something like seasonal cash flows," said Laurie Pieper, an advisor for the Kansas Small Business Development Center. "It could be somebody who needs money to expand their business, money for a new product development, money for remodeling, relocating or new technology. Any of the various reasons why businesses need money."

With presenters from several regional banks, the Small Business Association, NetWork Kansas, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washburn University Kansas Small Business Development Center, the Trade Adjustment Assistance Center, MidAmerica Angels, Kansas Securities Commissioner's Office, and local economic development offices, this is a unique opportunity to find out about and connect with these important resources for small businesses.

Presentation topics include what small businesses need to know about working with banks, using different types of capital for different purposes, grants for rural development, grants for technology development, grants for manufacturers affected by import, working with investors, tips about pitch competitions, and working with local resources such as the Kansas Small Business Development Center and economic development programs.

Access to Capital for Small Businesses is sponsored by the Washburn University Kansas Small Business Development Center, the Kansas State University College of Business, Central National Bank, Kaw Valley State Bank and Sunflower Bank.

Registration for the workshop costs $5 and will begin at 7:30 a.m. All panels and presentations will occur between 8 a.m. and noon, with an hour networking session to follow. Register for the event online
