Career Center selects seven students to be new peer career specialists

Submitted by Jared Meitler

The Career Center recently selected seven new peer career specialists for the 2017-2018 academic year. Peer career specialists assist Kansas State University students in the career exploration and planning process. They individually guide students through career assessments and help them connect career goals with academic majors, minors and certificate programs at K-State.

Career specialists fill an essential role in serving the K-State community. Studies suggest that 80 percent of college students change their major at least once, and the 2014 National Freshman Attitudes Report written by Noel-Levitz, indicates "21 percent of entering freshman report being very confused about which career occupation to pursue."

The following students are new peer career specialists :

Tori Mitchell, freshman in secondary education, Lawrence; Merani Rivarola-Gragg, sophomore in family studies and human services, Lenexa; Makayla Alderson, junior in social sciences, Sedgwick; Dalton Mitchell, sophomore in communication studies, Topeka; Ashley Anderson, junior in communication studies, Firth, Nebraska; Ashlenn Wellbrock, junior in psychology, Wylie, Texas; and Siba Khojah, junior in political science, Amman, Jordan

Returning peer career specialists:

Taylor Thompson, junior in communication studies, Abilene; Megan Malm, junior in communication studies, McPherson; Sierra Grimm, junior in kinesiology, Olathe; Olivia Harding, junior in management, Shawnee; Taylor Gnagi, junior in family studies and human services, Topeka; and Chris Reusz, junior in bakery science and management, Downers Grove, Illinois.

Thanks and congratulations to our 2016-2017 graduates that include Amanda Stultz, psychology, Andover; Caylin Smith, communication studies, Hillsdale; Paige Wiley, communication studies, Overland Park; Jordan Dunn, counseling, St. George; Zev Allen, life sciences, Soldier; and Jessica Ayres, hospitality management, Wichita.

As a reminder, the Career Center will be open over the summer for students wishing to explore majors, minors, secondary majors and careers, or for postgraduation career development and job search needs. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
