Director of Kansas State Polytechnic's Upward Bound program to speak on panel at Kansas Wesleyan University

Monshonda Booker, director of Upward Bound at Kansas State Polytechnic, is one of four guest speakers invited to participate in the She Shall Overcome panel discussion at Kansas Wesleyan University.

The panel will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in 201 Peters Science Hall. The event is free and open to the public. K-State students, faculty and staff are invited to attend. 

The panel will discuss in depth the challenges diverse women have in pursuing educational goals and overcoming barriers to achieve success in careers and in life.

Other panel members include Rosa Banda, assistant professor educational Leadership at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi; Genyne L. Royal, South Neighborhood engagement director at Michigan State University; and Lori Train, a teacher at Salina High School. Meredith Drees, director of experiential learning and assistant professor of religion and philosophy at Kansas Wesleyan University, will facilitate the panel discussion.

A brown bag lunch discussion on diversity in higher education also will be from noon to 1 p.m. April 20 in Stewart Dining Room in Pfeiffer Hall.

Upward Bound is a campus-based TRIO program designed to assist area high school students with additional academic preparation, advisement and encouragement to succeed in high school and later in college.
