Pesticides and bees focus of Nebraska entomologist's seminar

Submitted by John Ruberson

Judy Wu Smart

Judy Wu Smart, from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, will present "Effects of neonicotinoids on honey bee and bumble bee queens and impacts on colony development" at 4 p.m. March 7 in 231 Waters Hall. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to attend.

Smart's seminar will address current concerns over the impact of neonicotinoid insecticides on domesticated honeybees, as well as bumblebees. There is significant global concern over the decline of pollinators generally, but of bees in particular. A growing body of evidence suggests that neonicotinoids play some role in that decline. Smart's seminar will address aspects of this important issue.
