Finalists announced for final 2017 Three Minute Thesis Competition

K-State's 2017 Three Minute Thesis Competition was Feb. 8 in the College of Business Administration building. More than 30 graduate students participated in the preliminary heats, with four heats scheduled throughout the afternoon. Two graduate students were selected from each of the four heats to compete at the final competition at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the K-State Alumni Center's Banquet Room. 

The eight graduate students who will compete in the final competition include:

Heat 1: Tuyen Nguyen, doctoral student in chemistry, "Tiny Superhero Fights against Cancer" and 
Babita Adhikari Dhungel, doctoral student in biology, "Resolving Neruodegeneration by Ending Cell's Garbage Disposal Strike."

Heat 2: Anju Giri, doctoral student in agronomy, "Selection Strategies of Wheat under Water-Deficient Condition" and Heather Love, doctoral student in human ecology, "Army Relationships and Suicidal Thoughts."

Heat 3: Olalere Marcus Olatoye, doctoral student in agronomy, "Producing More with Less" and Zin Mar Myint, master's student in mass communications, "Peace Journalism & Framing in the Northern Rakhine State of Myanmar."

Heat 4: Anil Pant, doctoral student in biology, "Vaccinia Virus Develops New Taste" and Brintha Parasumanna Girinathan, doctoral student in genetics, "Preventing Infection Associated with Antibiotics."

The judges for the final competition will be Coach Bill Snyder; Manhattan's Mayor Usha Reddi; and Manhattan Commerce Bank President Tom Giller. 

From the final competition, the judging panel will select the top two presenters, and a people's choice award winner will be selected by the audience. The first place presenter will represent K-State at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 3MT Competition in April.
