Interior design faculty elected to organization leadership roles

Submitted by Barbara Anderson

K-State's interior design program continues to provide outstanding leaders to professional boards with the recent election of three interior design faculty members.

Michael Dudek, associate professor in interior design, is serving on the board of directors for the Council of Interior Design Qualification. The council develops, administers and manages the certification examination for interior designers. Dudek's areas of specialization are professional standards, lighting for interiors and the design process. The council is a nonprofit organization that exists to protect public health, safety and welfare.

Bryan Orthel, assistant professor in interior design, was elected to the position of member-at-large within the Interior Design Educators Council Foundation Inc.

Barbara Anderson, department head of apparel, textiles, and interior design, former treasurer for the Interior Design Educators Council Foundation Inc., was elected to serve as the foundation's vice president for fundraising on the board of directors. The foundation supports education, research, leadership development and engagement/outreach for the interior design profession. Orthel specializes in historic preservation and design thinking, and Anderson not only leads the department, but also specializes in sustainability, historic preservation, and architecture and design history.

John Buckwalter, dean of the College of Human Ecology, said, "The professional leadership demonstrated by the interior design faculty at Kansas State University is a hallmark of the quality of engagement and professionalism that they encourage in their students and graduates."
