Reminder: Drivers, pedestrians share responsibility for crosswalk safety

Submitted by Don Stubbings

The K-State Police Department has responded to two injury accidents involving pedestrians at crosswalks in the last week. In both cases, the drivers failed to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Drivers on and around campus should use caution when approaching crosswalks in anticipation of a pedestrian crossing with little warning. Pedestrians have a shared responsibility with crosswalk safety as well. It is unlawful for a pedestrian to enter a crosswalk without giving notice and time for a vehicle time to stop.
