Register now for the New Faculty Institute's writing retreat May 1

Submitted by Paula Connors

New faculty are invited to attend the second Kansas State University New Faculty Institute Writing Retreat. The writing retreat will give new faculty the opportunity to get away from interruptions and devote one day to writing and/or finalizing papers and articles.

The retreat will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 1, off campus for a comfortable, relaxing and collegial environment.

During this interdisciplinary retreat, participants' can work on their research and jump-start summer writing projects. The retreat will provide a quiet space to establish individual workspaces and to write among other focused, productive faculty. It is hoped that faculty will make significant progress on their writing projects, including book prospectuses, articles, book chapters, conference presentations, creative pieces or other writing activities. Participants will be able to think, organize and write for three hours in the morning, have lunch and listen to a guest speaker, then write for another three hours in the afternoon. Everyone will engage in short-term goal setting and self-evaluation exercises in the beginning and at the end of the day.

A light breakfast, lunch, snacks and lots of coffee will be provided, as well as Internet access. The retreat is restricted to no more than 25 faculty and there is no cost to attend. This event is sponsored by the Teaching & Learning Center.

For more information, contact Esther Swilley, New Faculty Institute coordinator, at esthers@k-state.edu, or Jana Fallin, director of the Teaching & Learning Center, at 785-532-7828.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, April 15.
