Philanthropists speak about first-generation students

Submitted by Steven Dandaneau

Eric and Deb Suder, the Suder Foundation, will address their distinctive approach to promoting first-generation student success from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building.

Please consider visiting with the Suders informally from 5-5:45 p.m. during a reception, weather permitting, on the building's second-floor outdoor balcony. Light refreshments will be served.

First Scholars, a program of the Suder Foundation, was founded in 2008. K-State received a First Scholars Program grant in 2013 and three additional seed grants in 2014 supporting, respectively, living-learning communities, StrengthsQuest and professional development efforts on behalf of the 40 percent of K-State undergraduate students who aspire to be the first in their families to earn bachelor's degrees.

In addition to Kansas State University, the Suder Foundation currently supports First Scholars Programs at the University of Kentucky, University of Alabama, Washington State University, University of Memphis, Southern Illinois University and Northern Arizona University.
