Submitted by Communication and Marketing
The monthly Kansas Board of Regents meeting on Oct. 15 included the following items related to Kansas State University.
Reagan Kays, K-State student body president and chair of the Regents' student advisory committee, reported about the committee's discussion on tobacco use on Regents' campuses and Higher Education Day on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Title IX
Following an overview of Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act and the Clery Act by general counsel representatives, the panel of university presidents and chancellor shared how each institution is addressing these issues. President Kirk Schulz discussed how Kansas State University is educating students, faculty and staff about discrimination and sexual harassment. The university has started mandatory online training that focuses on Title IX, and the K-State Center for Advocacy Response and Education, or CARE, offers confidential advocacy and support services. The university also is encouraging discussion and forums, such as the Shatter the Silence Lunch Hours, to bring people together.
College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension
College of Agriculture Dean John Floros presented to the Regents about the college's strengths, vision and goals and explained the role of K-State Research and Extension. Floros highlighted the importance of K-State's recent successes in winning four grants from the U.S Agency for International Development, or USAID. The fourth and largest grant from the USAID Feed the Future program was announced in September and is focused on sustainable intensification.
