We have planned a fun-filled approach to Engineering where students learn by doing!

KU's Center for Remote Sensing and Integrated Systems will host a series of fully funded summer camps that will offer rising high school juniors and seniors short preparatory courses in aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, and computer science at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Students will get a leg up on their STEM studies while getting hands-on experience with real-world research and an introduction to college life – and will be prioritized for future opportunities and scholarships as part of the ARISE grant. Fun activities will include real drone trials and autonomous RV car races.

The LEAPES camps are one-week experiences with different focus areas for rising juniors and seniors, and the AATEE camp lasts two weeks and is only for rising seniors. Read more about the LEAPES camp and apply here. Read more about the AATEE camp and apply here.

Our summer camps will have hands on projects in each session. All sessions are on-campus residential camps at KU. Students will be housed in a dorm with a full meal plan. There is NO COST to attend these camps (other than transportation to/from campus). Computers will be provided during classes for those who do not have laptops. Apply for all sessions you are interested in - you may be selected for multiple sessions.

For more information, contact Jennifer Laverentz at jenlav@ku.edu or Rachel James at rachelmjames@ku.edu. Preference will be given to rural and military connected Kansas students, per NDEP grant award, but all are welcome to apply. The application deadline for both camps is May 1st.

Spots are still open for High School teachers for all sessions. Housing, enrollment and meals are provided at no cost. Teachers will be provided necessary educational material to transfer the UAV and RC car-based AI educational programs into their high school curriculum.
