2018-2019 Departmental Scholarship Awards

The Department of Statistics is pleased to announce the recipients of the departmental scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year. In total, $42,700 has been awarded to nine students. The students were chosen from nearly 40 applicants, and include undergraduate, master’s and PhD students. In addition to scholastic achievement, awardees were selected on the strength of their personal narratives describing their research achievements, participation in department or other academic activities, evidence of teaching excellence, and professional goals.

Four awards were given for the Coyne scholarship. These were given to

  • Behnaz Moradijamei, a 3rd year PhD student working with Dr. Higgins
  • Nelson Walker, an incoming PhD student working with Dr. Hefley
  • Haoyu Zhang, a 4th year PhD student working with Dr. Hefley
  • Congxing Zhou, a 1st year master’s student working with Dr. Hefley

In addition, six students receive funding from a variety of departmental scholarships. These are

  • Andrea Garcia, an undergraduate from [???Kansas High School], received the Iman scholarship
  • Chenshuang Lu, a 4th year PhD student working with Dr. Hsu, received the Fryer scholarship
  • Narmadha Mohandumar, a 3rd year PhD student working with Dr. Hefley, received the Siepman scholarship
  • Nelson Walker, an incoming PhD student working with Dr. Hefley, received the Statistics scholarship
  • Jennifer Delzeit, a master’s student working with Dr. Hsu, received the Waller scholarship
  • Jia Liang, a 4th year PhD student working with Dr. Song, received the Lin scholarship
