The Founders Scholarship for Academic Excellence

This scholarship was started by the founders of the women’s studies program here at K-State. In their continuing support of students pursuing degrees that center questions of gender equity, racial justice, and intersectionality, The Founders Scholarship now recognizes academic excellence in those majoring in social transformation studies doing exceptional work in their studies.

Who is eligible?

Juniors (60-90 credit hours) who are majoring in social transformation studies

How do I apply?

No need to apply! All juniors majoring in social transformation studies are automatically considered for this award.

Social Transformation Studies Essay Contest

$200

The social transformation studies department would like to recognize the excellent work our students produce in their American ethnic studies, gender, women, and sexuality studies, and social transformation studies courses. At the end of the spring semester of every academic year, two awards of $200 each are made in recognition of the outstanding written analysis students have produced. Traditionally, one award is given to an undergraduate and one to a graduate, but this is based on submissions received. Essay must have been produced in an AMETH, GWSS, or STRAN class in the Summer or Fall of 2024 or Spring of 2025 to be considered.

Who is eligible?

Any student who has written an essay in an American ethnic studies, gender, women, and sexuality studies, or social transformation studies class this academic year.

How do I apply?

Email your essay submission as a Word document or PDF to soctran@ksu.edu by midnight April 25.

The Kathleen C. Goetsch Scholarship

$2,500

This scholarship was created to support students with financial need and is funded through the 2025-2026 academic year.

Who is eligible?

Undergraduate students doing the social transformation studies major or graduate students pursuing a graduate certificate in gender, women, and sexuality studies.

How do I apply?

No need to apply! A faculty committee will choose the recipient from the pool of eligible students.
