Dr. Gerad Middendorf, Professor of Sociology at Kansas State University, has expertise in rural and environmental studies, including the sociology of agriculture and rural development. He has published on the social implications of agricultural technologies, agricultural science and technology policy, agrarian landscape transition, biofuels development, and related topics. He has participated in cross-disciplinary, collaborative work funded by the NSF (agrarian landscapes in transition), the DOE (biofuels development and rural communities), and the USDA/SARE (Latinos in mid-western agriculture). He and colleagues published The Fight Over Food (Penn State Press, 2008), which assesses the various movements underway in the agrifood system. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals, including Rural Sociology; Agriculture and Human Values; the Journal of Extension; and Investigación & Desarrollo, among others.
