Don L. Kurtz is Department Head in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at Kansas State University and a Professor of Social Work. He served the last 15 years in K-State Social Work Program teaching courses in social work practice, social policy, and social work in the criminal justice system. His research interests include juvenile delinquency, narrative criminology, family narratives, police storytelling and police stress. He is published in Crime and Delinquency, Feminist Criminology, Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Critical Criminology, Victims and Offenders, and Women and Criminal Justice among others. He has received over a million dollars in research and service grants while at K-State—including NSF and DOJ funding. Dr. Kurtz has remained a community engaged scholar with more than two decades of direct practice experience working as a social worker, in juvenile corrections, domestic violence, and in crisis stabilization/mental health fields.
