Reverse Transfer

Reverse transfer of courses

Students who transfer to a Kansas public university from a Kansas public community college or technical college (or vice versa) are eligible for Reverse Transfer, which allows for the attainment of any associate degree for which one is eligible along the way to additional certificates and degrees.

Visit the Kansas Board of Regents Transfer and Articulation website for more information.

What is Reverse Transfer?

Reverse Transfer allows you to receive your associate degree from your most recent Kansas community college or technical college by combining the credits you earned there and the credits you earn after transferring to a Kansas public university.

Within your first year, if you transfer coursework from a community college or techical college to Kansas State University, you will be notified if you are eligible to be considered for Reverse Transfer.  You are considered eligible if you have completed/earned 45 credit hours at one or more colleges, with at least 15 credit hours from ONE Kansas Community College, AND if you provide consent/Opt-In to the release of your academic record.

If you consent (also known as "opting in") your K-State academic record will be shared with your Kansas Community College after each semester at K-State, sharing your semester grades allowing you to be evaluated for consideration of degree completion for an Associates degree.  If applicable, your associate degree will be conferred based upon a satisfactory evaluation.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN REVERSE TRANSFER?

  • Research shows that on average, people with more education make more money than those with less. Associate degree holders average about $200,000 more over a lifetime than individuals with some college but no degree, while bachelor’s degree holders average over $720,000 more.
  • The associate degree represents an educational achievement, a credential for career advancement, and a building block to additional academic accomplishments. Further, research shows that students who earn the associate degree via reverse transfer are more likely to continue their education and complete a bachelor’s degree.
  • You will not be charged any fees for participating in this program or for the awarded associate degree. Charges for mailing the diploma will be at the discretion of the issuing 2-year college.
Opting In is the first step.
