K-State Alerts is Kansas State University's emergency notification system that gives campus authorities the ability to communicate emergency information quickly to the university community using some or all of the following channels:
K-State Alerts will only be used to inform recipients when a dangerous condition exists on campus (e.g. active shooter, storm in process, dangerous debris from storm), when a decision to close the campus has been made or when a decision to reopen the campus following a forced closure has been made.
Current students, staff, and faculty with an active eID are eligible to sign up for K-State Alerts text messages and phone calls. This includes K-Staters at the Manhattan, Salina and Olathe campuses, distance students and those at research and extension offices. If desired, K-Staters could add their parents, children, or spouse's phone numbers when they sign up for K-State Alerts. Text messages and automated phone call alerts and provided by Rave Wireless.
Twice per year on specified days. Tests ensure that the K-State Alerts and Rave Mobile Safety service are functioning properly. You will be notified in advance of the test. If you do not receive the test alert, please verify you are set to receive emergency alerts and that the saved phone numbers are correct and current. If you need assistance, contact the IT Help Desk.
Alert beacons are wall-mounted units that use sirens, flashing strobe lights, and digital text to immediately alert people of an emergency. The beacons are installed in many Manhattan, Salina, and Olathe lecture halls, hallways and residence halls. The installation of the alert beacons is funded through the City/University projects fund.
K-State Alerts has partnered with Rave Wireless, the leader in mobile safety, to offer an emergency notification system capable of sending users text messages and automated phone calls in the event of a university emergency.
Sign in to Connect and click the K-State Alerts link in the Info section. You can choose to receive alerts specific to your campus (Manhattan, Salina, Olathe). You can also add up to six phone numbers, three numbers can receive text messages and three numbers can receive automated phone calls.
K-State Alert's local phone number, 785-532-0111, will appear when receiving an automated phone call. Text messages will come from either 67283 or 226787. We encourage you to save these numbers into your phone so you will recognize them when messages are sent. Some smaller carriers do not support short code messaging. For these carriers, you will receive messages from @getrave.com.
