Micromobility

Many K-Staters utilize various forms of transportation on campus. Bicycles, scooters and skateboards are permitted if K-State regulations are followed.

Bicycles

All bicycles parked on campus must display a K-State bicycle permit. Bicycles without permits will receive a citation. Parking Services issues these permits for free. The registered permit holder is responsible for any violations of bicycle parking regulations. Any moving violations will be the responsibility of the individual operating the bicycle.

Scooters

Scooters are allowed on campus, and riders must follow these guidelines:

  • Wearing a helmet is recommended.
  • Only one rider is permitted per scooter.
  • Always yield to pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Be considerate of pedestrians, avoiding busy sidewalks.
  • Ride in designated bike lanes; do not ride on sidewalks.
  • Never use your cell phone while riding.
  • Keep your eyes on the road and both hands on the handlebars.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings and do not use headphones.
  • Park only in designated areas.
  • Ride sober.
  • Motorized scooters are required to follow traffic laws and can be ticketed or arrested for violating them.

You can either bring your own scooter to campus or rent one. K-State has partnered with the city of Manhattan and Veo, for an e-scooter share program.

Skateboards

Skateboards and in-line skates are allowed on university pathways designated for bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Skateboarding is permitted for individual transportation in university bike lanes. However, skating and skateboards are NOT allowed on buildings, rails, steps, retaining walls, landscape walls, benches, handrails or similar structures.

All skaters and skateboarders must adhere to safety rules and always yield the right of way to pedestrians and vehicles. Only cautious use of skates and skateboards is permitted on campus, and skating or skateboarding is prohibited inside any university building.
