Funding for research, internships and academic travel

Undergraduate Research Awards
Interested in doing research? Our college offers $1,500 Undergraduate Research Awards to do semester-long, faculty-mentored research or creative projects. These awards are offered in fall, spring and summer; the next application deadline is Nov. 1, for spring support.

Travel awards provide undergraduate and graduate students support to present research at conferences or conduct research off-campus. They are offered year-round. Applications should be submitted at least one month prior to travel.

Internship Awards of $2,000 support undergraduate students who do an internship, apprenticeship or practicum experience. All degree-seeking students enrolled in any major in the College of Arts and Sciences are eligible. The next application deadline is Nov. 1, for a spring project.

Cancer Research and Travel Awards
K-State’s Johnson Cancer Research Center offers research and travel awards for undergraduate and graduate students involved in cancer-related research. Applications for some awards are due Oct. 5.

 

Mentorship Program for professional development

Photo of two people chatting while sitting on a limestone wallThe Arts and Sciences Mentorship Program is open to all undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students are paired with professionals—mostly alumni, faculty and staff—who serve as mentors, providing insight and guidance on career preparation, pathways and building a professional network.

The program is facilitated through WildcatLink. To join, activate your account with your K-State eID and password and then request membership in the Arts and Sciences Mentorship Program.

Sign up by Sun., Sept. 6, to be onboarded before the program launches on Thu., Sept. 17.

Scholar Development and Undergraduate Research

SDUR, part of the Staley School for Leadership, connects students with transformative learning opportunities—through research, mentorship, and academic development—to help them explore their interests, grow their potential, and pursue meaningful futures. SDUR staff and programs provide opportunities to apply for research funding, present research, compete nationally for scholarships, prepare for graduate school, and more.

 

‘Cats Connect

Connect with other K-Staters and help build community through conversation. ‘Cats Connect is a peer-to-peer facilitated program designed to help groups of 4-7 Wildcats—faculty, staff and students—meet and develop friendships outside their regular social circles. Groups meet one hour a week for five weeks.

Applied Learning Experiences Survey

K-State’s Applied Learning Experiences office wants to know about students’ summer 2026 internships, jobs, research and volunteer experiences. Please complete this survey to help them understand what opportunities students actually have, share those options with future students, and build better support for your next experience.
