Cayuse Outside Interests launches as new system for conflict of interest and time reporting

The Conflict of Interest and Time Program has launched Cayuse Outside Interests, or Cayuse OI, a new system for conflict-of-interest and time disclosures and for consulting prior-approval requests.

Cayuse OI replaces three tools:

  • Human Resources Information System (HRIS) for annual conflict of interest disclosures and consulting prior approval requests.
  • IRB Manager for conflict-of-interest disclosures from U.S. Public Health Service (PHS)-funded researchers.
  • The PDF form for reporting foreign financial interests.

FY2027 annual disclosures are due Oct. 31.

Kansas Board of Regents and K-State policies on conflict of time, conflict of interest, consulting and other employment require all faculty and unclassified staff to submit an annual disclosure of outside activities. As in past years, you must submit a disclosure even if you have no outside interests to report. Please submit your FY2027 disclosure by Oct. 31.

How to submit your disclosure

  1. Go to Cayuse OI and log in with single sign-on.
  2. Select Add Disclosure.
  3. Select Start a New Annual Disclosure.

You can complete your FY2027 annual disclosure and request prior approval for consulting on the same form. If you need to add a new interest or request approval for another activity later in the year, follow the same steps to start a new annual disclosure.

What's changing

  • One system for everything: All university conflict-of-interest disclosures, including prior approval requests, now occur in Cayuse OI. You no longer need separate systems or PDF forms.
  • Your information carries over: You'll need to answer the yes/no and checkbox questions every year. Details about your outside interests and activities will fill in from your last disclosure, so if nothing has changed, you won't need to enter them again.
  • New timing: Annual disclosures will now take place in the fall semester rather than in June.

Resources and training

The K-State Conflict of Interest website has been updated with clearer guidance, training and step-by-step instructions for the new system.
