K-State introduces award recognizing excellence in undergraduate academic advising

Strong academic advising plays a critical role in student success, helping undergraduate students navigate their academic journeys, connect their goals to opportunities and make informed decisions that support timely degree completion and long-term success.

To recognize the professionals who make this work possible, Kansas State University is introducing the President’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising. The award will honor professional academic advisors who demonstrate excellence in advising and make a meaningful difference in the undergraduate student experience.

"Excellent academic advising is essential to student success," said Pamela Erickson, executive director of academic advising. "Our advisors help students understand their options, overcome challenges, identify opportunities and stay on a path toward achieving their academic and career goals. This award provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the important impact they have on our students."

The award recognizes professional advisors whose primary role is the direct delivery of academic advising services to undergraduate students. The recipient will receive a $2,000 monetary award, supported by the Office of the Provost.

To be eligible, nominees must:

• Be a K-State professional academic advisor whose primary role is advising undergraduate students.
• Have been employed at K-State for a minimum of three years in a professional advisor role at the time of nomination.
• Have the support of their direct supervisor.
• Have received a minimum rating of "Meets Expectations" on their most recent performance review.

The President’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising reflects K-State’s commitment to recognizing the professionals who help students make meaningful academic decisions and achieve their goals. By celebrating excellence in advising, the university seeks to highlight the vital role advisors play in creating a supportive and successful undergraduate experience.
