Help shape the future of water in Kansas at local consult meetings

Kansas State University faculty, staff, students and community partners are encouraged to participate in a series of local water consult meetings being held across Kansas this summer. Hosted by the Kansas Water Office, the Kansas Department of Agriculture, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the meetings will provide opportunities for Kansans to share perspectives on water conservation, water quality, infrastructure investments and future water planning efforts.

"The challenges and opportunities surrounding water in Kansas require input from many perspectives," said Susan Metzger, director of the Kansas Water Institute at K-State. "Our K-State community brings valuable knowledge and experience to these discussions to help ensure that future water planning reflects the needs of communities across the state."

Interested participants can join from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. Additional regional meetings will take place in Colby, Hays, Parsons, Topeka, Garden City and Wichita.

Faculty, staff and students with interests in water resources, agriculture, engineering, community development, public health, education and related fields are encouraged to RSVP online.

This is part of an ongoing statewide effort to gather input and inform strategies that will help preserve and protect Kansas' water resources for future generations. Participants will learn about the state's water supply challenges and opportunities while contributing ideas related to community growth, sustainability and regional water planning.
