Update from Parking Services
New phased parking permit pricing to take effect July 1
Kansas State University has approved a gradual, two-year adjustment to annual campus parking permit rates. Updated permit prices will take effect on July 1, 2026, and again on July 1, 2027, as part of the changes for fiscal years 2027 and 2028.
K-State Parking Services is a self-funded auxiliary unit and does not receive state or tuition funding. Instead, it relies on parking permit revenue to support day-to-day operations, maintenance, construction and repairs. This funding helps keep campus parking safe, reliable and sustainable long term.
Investing in parking improvements and repairs helps to create a safer, smoother experience for everyone. Well‑maintained lots and garages reduce hazards like potholes and poor lighting, making it easier to navigate campus with confidence. A recent assessment found that nearly 20% of parking spaces are in critical condition, requiring an estimated $7.7 million in maintenance and repairs over the next decade. Addressing these needs now helps ensure parking remains dependable well into the future.
To support these efforts, updated permit rates for students, faculty, staff and vendors will be introduced through the phased two-year approach:
- Student permits will increase from $198 to $210 on July 1, 2026, and to $221 on July 1, 2027.
- Faculty/staff Tier 1 permits will increase from $170 to $196 on July 1, 2026, and to $221 on July 1, 2027.
- Faculty/staff Tier 2 permits will increase from $203 to $231 on July 1, 2026, and to $258 on July 1, 2027.
- Faculty/staff Tier 3 permits will increase from $225 to $253 on July 1, 2026, and to $280 on July 1, 2027.
- Vendor permits will increase from $240 to $253 on July 1, 2026, and to $280 on July 1, 2027.
This phased approach is intended to provide predictability and transparency, with annual increases capped at the lesser of the Higher Education Price Index, or 4.5%, through fiscal year 2039. Spreading price changes over time helps balance affordability while allowing the university to maintain and improve parking infrastructure and meet long-term financial commitments, including bond obligations.
Throughout the decision-making process, K-State engaged with campus stakeholders — including student representatives, faculty and staff organizations, and university leadership — highlighting opportunities to expand permit options and improve flexibility, which will continue to be explored as part of the long-term plan.
Parking permit prices were last adjusted on July 1, 2021, and, prior to that, permit rates had remained unchanged since 2015. To learn more about parking permit prices and options, visit the Parking Services website.
