Leadership and Wildcat connections: Apply today to be an Applied Learning Experiences Ambassador

Kansas State University students who are passionate about gaining practical experience outside of the classroom to prepare for their futures are invited to apply to be Applied Learning Experiences Ambassadors.
Ambassadors play a key role in the Next-Gen K-State strategic plan's applied learning imperative — to provide every student with an applied learning experience by the time they graduate — by promoting applied learning across the university, supporting steering committees, offering strategic insight on imperative goals and engaging with students by sharing their own experiences.
Applied learning experiences provide structure and support to students as they take their classroom learning into practical settings. These experiences are proven to help students gain the skills that employers are looking for.
Student ambassadors will not only gain leadership experience and support an important university initiative, but they will also build connections across campus and earn a $500 scholarship each semester of their one-year terms.
Ashlyn Simonson, a current ambassador and sophomore in environmental science, saw the ambassadors program as an opportunity to stay connected to campus life while living off campus.
Reflecting on her time as an ambassador so far, Simonson said, "It's been a great experience, and everyone is nice. Everyone has excitement about applied learning experiences, which helps me gain excitement for what is to come with the initiative."
Ambassadors collaborate with students from diverse backgrounds across all K-State campuses, including online learners and those from other colleges.
Current ambassador Jenni Honorato, sophomore in public health, got involved with the group to continue engaging in leadership-focused opportunities and to share her experience with applied learning.
She especially enjoys connecting with students and helping them understand the value of applied learning.
"I like talking to students about applied learning and helping them become aware of the opportunities and benefits," Honorato said. "It's a great leadership experience and a great way to connect with people — including students and faculty. It's an applied learning experience itself."
The deadline to apply to be an Applied Learning Experiences Ambassador is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19. Interviews will take place during the first week of December, and new ambassadors will be selected by the end of the semester.
