Kansas State University continues to solidify its role as a global leader in the intersection of animal health and human health.

K-State and partners — including the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Greater Manhattan Economic Partnership and the University of Kansas — recently hosted representatives from more than six countries for One Health Industry Engagement Days. The event showcased how Kansas is home to a thriving ecosystem for research and development, innovation, commercialization, business talent, manufacturing, and economic opportunities in the human and animal health sectors.

The One Health Industry Engagement Days occurred June 4-6 and included opportunities to engage with academic and industry leaders and connect with economic development organizations throughout northeast Kansas. At K-State, guests toured College of Veterinary Medicine facilities and visited the Biosecurity Research Institute. The multiday event also included visits to the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City and Hill's Pet Nutrition in Topeka.

"The One Health Industry Engagement Days provided a collaborative opportunity to welcome new global partners to Kansas and show how Kansas State University is a leader in the intersection of animal and human health as well as biosecurity and biomanufacturing," said Marshall Stewart, K-State executive vice president for external engagement and chief of staff. "As a next-generation land-grant university, we seek out engagement that supports our local communities and builds the regional and state economy. We know that if we do good in Kansas, we can do good for the world."

The event shows K-State's priority to be a positive force for the Kansas economy. Through corporate partnerships and industry engagement, K-State continues to foster community health and well-being and enhance food security and biosecurity.

"Our K-State faculty and researchers are transforming the animal health industry across the state and region — what a wonderful way to highlight that innovation and open the door for new global partnership opportunities," said Rachelle Banwart, executive director of corporate engagement. "Many thanks to the Kansas Department of Commerce for organizing the One Health Industry Engagement Days and to our partners for showing why Kansas is a great place for businesses to grow."
