This academic year, Powercat Financial peer financial counselors, powered by Meritrust Credit Union, have engaged with over 7,000 K-State students through one-on-one appointments and financial education workshops in classrooms and for student organizations.
Powercat Financial is Kansas State University’s interdisciplinary universitywide program to support financial well-being for all Wildcat students. Powercat Financial is committed to equipping every student with the tools needed for financial success now and in the future.
“We currently have 22 Powercat Financial counselors and this school year we have held more than 1,600 appointments and over 190 presentations across campus,” said Kate Mielitz, Powercat Financial executive director. “Due to the generous support of Meritrust Credit Union, we have been able to reach more than 7,000 K-State students.”
Some unique outreach events include presentations by Chris Wolgamott, Meritrust’s director of financial well-being, and Cole Useldinger, peer financial counselor, to strengthen student knowledge of the financial aspect of the car buying process.
In addition, collaborative efforts supported educational outreach to student athletes during the fall and spring semesters.
