Parents and Family Program looking for volunteers for New Student Orientation
Thursday, May 8, 2025
Are you the parent or family member of a current Kansas State University student? Want to share the experiences you and your student have had during your K-State journey?
As we gear up for the upcoming orientation for incoming students and their families, the K-State Parents and Family Program invites faculty and staff members who are also parents of current students to participate in a special panel for parents and families. The panel will be part of a parent session from 9:20-10:10 a.m. on each of the in-person orientation days. We are looking for three to five parents or family members to serve each day. You do not have to be available for all 14 days to serve.
Previous participant Clint Hafliger, director of recreational services, said, "The panel is a relaxed setting that gives those new parents a chance to ask last-minute questions to help ease the transition for both student and parent."
Your insights and experiences as university faculty, staff and parents give you a unique perspective that can greatly benefit new families as they navigate the transition to college life. Your presence on the parent panel will provide invaluable guidance and reassurance to incoming families.
Paulicia Chimamanda Hungerford, assistant director of the Career Center, shared, "I also appreciated the sense of community it creates among parents — it was a reminder that we're all in this together. That connection made the experience especially rewarding."
If you are interested in serving on the parent panel during orientation, please complete the online survey by Sunday, May 25. You will receive confirmation and be provided with training and support in the week following.
