Kansas State University has named Marci R. McMahon as the new assistant vice provost for faculty affairs, effective July 6.

McMahon brings extensive leadership experience in the recruitment, retention and advancement of faculty. In her new role at K-State, she will be responsible for providing direction and support for faculty programs, services, policies and practices, and will play a key role in helping to shape the composition and experience of faculty.

She will serve as the university’s primary liaison to the Faculty Senate for all matters related to faculty and will collaborate closely with the Office of the Provost on academic personnel matters. McMahon will also lead and coordinate faculty affairs planning and activities in alignment with the university’s strategic goals as outlined in the Next-Gen K-State plan.

"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Marci McMahon to our team as the new assistant vice provost for faculty affairs! Her extensive experience with faculty development and programming, and next-gen vision will provide a robust foundation for cultivating a supportive and thriving environment for our faculty. We are confident that this, in turn, will significantly enhance the success of our students," said Margaret Mohr-Schroeder, vice provost for academic affairs and innovation.

Prior to joining K-State, McMahon served as the executive director of the Center for Faculty Development at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. In the role, she spearheaded initiatives to support faculty success in teaching, research and career development.

Before joining the University of Houston-Clear Lake, McMahon was a full professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a Hispanic Serving Institution along the U.S.-Mexico border. There, she was an administrative faculty fellow in the Office of Faculty Success and Diversity, leading programming for their NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant.

At K-State, McMahon will collaborate with Margaret Mohr-Schroeder, vice provost for academic affairs and innovation, and Simone Cummings, assistant vice provost for academic affairs, to support faculty advancement and excellence across the university.

“I am thrilled to join Kansas State University as the assistant vice provost for faculty affairs,” McMahon said. “My leadership background in both faculty affairs and faculty development will be instrumental in advancing our faculty to enhance the university’s mission. I am excited to work with a dynamic team alongside Vice Provost Margaret Mohr-Schroeder and Assistant Vice Provost Simone Cummings to realize K-State’s mission as a next-generation land-grant university. I am confident in our ability to navigate current contexts to ensure our faculty have the resources and support they need to succeed. Together, we will foster an environment where innovation and excellence can thrive.”

Marci McMahon is a co-principal investigator on two National Science Foundation grants totaling $1.5 million, focused on systemic change in STEM and leadership for Latinas in academia. She also co-edited the 2022 volume "Advancing Women in Academic STEM Fields." An interdisciplinary literature and cultural studies scholar, she authored "Domestic Negotiations: Gender, Nation, and Self-Fashioning in U.S. Mexicana and Chicana Literature and Art" and holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Southern California.
