MANHATTAN — The Academy of St Martin in the Fields will take the stage at Kansas State University’s McCain Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21. The piano soloist for the performance will be Bruce Liu.

Works to be performed will include Copland’s “Quiet City,” Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9, “Shaker Loops” by John Adams, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 29.

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields chamber orchestra is renowned for fresh, brilliant interpretations of the world’s greatest orchestral music. Formed by Sir Neville Marriner in 1958 from a group of leading London musicians, the ASMF gave its first performance in its namesake church in November 1959.

Sample description.Through incredible live performances and a vast recording output, the orchestra gained an international reputation for its distinctive, polished and refined sound. With over 500 releases in a celebrated discography and a comprehensive international touring program, the ASMF is loved by classical audiences worldwide.

Bruce Liu placed first in Warsaw's 18th Chopin Piano Competition 2021. Liu’s skills have secured his reputation as one of the most exciting talents of his generation and contributed to a celebrated status in the classical music world. Liu has performed with major orchestras, including the Wiener Symphoniker, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and the NHK Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets are available online at mccain.k-state.edu or at the ticket office in the McCain lobby from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Tickets are also available by phone at 785-532-6428 during the same hours. Tickets for youth 17 and younger are half price for this show. Discounted tickets to this show are also available for K-State faculty and staff, individuals 62 and older, and members of the military. Original IDs will be required to obtain discounts — third-party, photocopied or web-based IDs are not accepted.
