American Choral Directors Association at K-State

What is ACDA?

The mission of American Choral Directors Association at Kansas State University is to inspire excellence and nurture lifelong involvement in choral music for everyone through education, performance, composition, cultural awareness, inclusivity, and advocacy. The goals of ACDA include providing professional growth opportunities for undergraduate and graduate level music education students beyond that of the university classroom experience and promoting the love of choral singing for all musicians. We are also further supplementing the education of our Vocal Music Education majors by providing opportunities to sight-read music, conduct, practice rehearsal techniques, and genuinely connect with their colleagues.

What’s it like at K-State?

Here at K-State, we have struggled to bring ACDA to life. We have come to the conclusion that the organization has lost sight of what our purpose is. This year, we want to encourage discussion, hear from experts in the field, and explore choral music outside of K-State. Additionally, we want to make this a 2-sided organization that takes opinions of members into account.

THE GOAL: Facilitate collaborative learning experiences that our K-State curriculum can’t necessarily provide. This semester we will host 4, intentional meetings as well as exploring other bonding opportunities.

Why should you care?

I won’t sugarcoat - if you are seriously considering having choral music in your life past college (whether that be performance or education) this organization is for you. This organization’s sole purpose is to provide professional growth opportunities in choral/vocal music.
