Green to Gold

The Army Green to Gold Program provides Enlisted Soldiers an opportunity to pursue a baccalaureate or graduate degree while earning a commission as an Army officer. There are three ways to attend under the Green to Gold Program:

  • Active Duty Option: Selected Soldiers will remain on Active Duty status to attend college full-time. Soldiers must complete the requirements for their degree, either baccalaureate or graduate level, in two academic years. Soldiers continue to receive their current pay and allowances and are eligible for PCS entitlements to relocate to their school of choice. The Soldier is responsible for the total cost of attending school and is able to utilize GI Bill benefits (if qualified), grants, non-binding scholarships, and loans.
  • Scholarship/Hip Pocket Option: Soldiers selected under the Scholarship or Hip Pocket options will leave active duty status to attend college for two, three, or four years depending on time to degree completion. The Army will pay tuition and fees or room and board, $600 per semester for books, and a monthly stipend of $420.
  • Non-Scholarship Option: Soldiers selected under the Non-Scholarship Option will leave active duty status to attend college. The Soldier must complete their degree requirements in two years. The Army will provide a monthly stipend of $420. The Soldier is responsible for the total cost of attending school and is able to utilize GI Bill benefits (if qualified), grants, non-binding scholarships, and loans. Non-Scholarship Option Soldiers may also participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) and become a member or either a drilling Reserve or Guard unit. SMP’s earn E-5 Reserve Component pay under this program and may qualify for tuition assistance offered by the state.
