Media advisory: Media invited to attend Sedgwick County open forum, other K-State community visit events on Feb. 20 and 21

ANNOUNCEMENT: As part of the Kansas State University presidential community visit initiative, K-State will host a community visit in Sedgwick County on Monday, Feb. 20, and Tuesday, Feb. 21. The visit includes activities to engage with, listen to and learn from Kansans in Wichita and the Sedgwick County region.

President Richard Linton and K-State Connected 'Cats students will lead several events, including community conversations, recruitment activities and events to highlight university partnerships and K-State Research and Extension relationships. The Connected 'Cats students include Kaleo Vincent, Valley Center, senior in athletic training and rehabilitation sciences, and Christopher Burrell, Wichita, senior in mechanical engineering.

Media are invited to attend the community open forum from 8:30-9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Kansas Leadership Center, 325 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita. Linton and the K-State Connected 'Cats students will host a dialogue about university and community connections and the student experience.

Media also are invited to attend a Feb. 20 discussion focused on Downtown Wichita partnerships with the K-State College of Architecture, Planning & Design. The conversation will highlight how K-State students and faculty have engaged in service-learning in the urban design of downtown Wichita, including work at downtown catalyst sites, the Delano District and the ICT Pop-Up Park as well as the community dialogue for Chester I. Lewis Park. The discussion is from 4-5:15 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at Downtown Wichita, 505 E. Douglas, Wichita.

Additionally, two surprise educator awards will be distributed at area high schools on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Media members should contact media@k-state.edu to attend these events and to get further details.
