MANHATTAN — The Kansas State University Marching Band is bringing the sound of purple to Wichita.

The entire marching band will travel to Wichita on Friday, Oct. 19, to perform at halftime for the football game between Wichita East High School and Wichita West High School. The game is at 7 p.m. at Wichita Northwest High School stadium, 1220 N. Tyler Road.

The band will be doing music and marching clinics during the day on Friday for Wichita area high schools, including Wichita Northwest High School, Wichita Southeast High School, Wichita South High School, Wichita East High School and Wichita West High School.

"We want to give Wichita-area students and their parents a glimpse of what it is like to be part of the K-State family as a member of the marching band," said Frank Tracz, director of bands at Kansas State University. "This experience hopefully will encourage Wichita area students to consider Kansas State University for their college careers and show how music can be an integral and fulfilling part of life after high school."

The more than 400 members of the university's marching band will perform halftime of the high school football game. The halftime show will feature selections from the musical "The Greatest Showman" and the performance will include musicians, twirlers, a color guard and the Classy Cats dance team.

"There are many K-State alumni teaching in the Wichita area and we are proud to be bringing part of the K-State family to them for this very special event," Tracz said.

The Kansas State University Marching Band was the recipient of the 2015 Sudler Trophy, which is the most prestigious award in college marching band and recognizes excellence and innovation. Kansas State University Bands are student-musician centered programs in the College of Arts and Science's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. The marching band and athletic bands are the spirit of Wildcat Nation and involve students from every college at the university.
